What We Do

Unlocking Potential - Shaping Futures

There is an abundance of people across Northern Ireland who want to use their skills, experiences and time for the benefit of others. Equipping for Life (EfL) provides opportunities for people of faith to make significant contributions to the lives of children in local primary schools. Spending one-to-one time with the same children every week in a safe and nurturing environment fosters self-confidence, improves reading and allows mutual respect to flourish.

We work in partnership with local primary schools to provide the best possible service to the children the schools consider would benefit most from the work. Equipping for Life endeavours to provide as much support to the schools as possible. Our relationships with partner schools are based on supportive and mutually agreed objectives.

All Equipping for Life volunteers undergo a recruitment process and AccessNi vetting. For the Reading Programme, we place volunteers in our partner schools within established or new teams. For the Tennis Programme, volunteers will assist professional coaches with larger group of children. Volunteers for the Inspire Programme will support the running of these exciting events in individual schools.

“The smile on their face when they see you waiting for them at the door and the progress in their reading skills shows how such a small time commitment can make such a huge impact on their lives. I hope I am changing their lives ….it has certainly changed mine.”
