Volunteer Training Day December 2019
Over 40 volunteers attended a pre-Christmas event on the 4th December 2019 in appreciation of their invaluable contribution to the ongoing success of EfL’s primary school literacy support programme across the Greater Shankill area of Belfast.
Four of the eight primary Principals were also able to join with us to hear guest speaker Jackie Redpath, Chief Executive of the Greater Shankill Partnership.

With infectious enthusiasm, passion and knowledge Jackie unfolded the history, impact and shaping of industrial change and urban planning and the legacy of the ‘troubles’, finishing with his aspirations and vision for the future of the Greater Shankill. His address was followed by an animated question and answer time with the volunteers and Principals.

What a Great Day!

On June 21st 2019, almost one year since its formation, Equipping for Life held its official launch at the Spectrum Centre in Belfast.

The hall was filled to capacity with children from local schools, parents, teachers and volunteers along with political, community and church leaders keen to celebrate the work of Equipping for Life. The opening remarks were made by Brother David Jardine, the founder of Equipping for Life, followed by songs from a choir comprised of children from four local primary schools. Prayers were said by community leaders and a short, inspirational keynote address was given by Sir Nigel Hamilton, the former head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service.

After the end of the proceedings, the 250 present were invited to stay for tea, coffee and refreshments, allowing time for people to meet each other and learn more about the plans of Equipping Life for the year ahead, commencing in September.
