Una McCormick: Volunteer Tutor in Malvern Primary School

Una McCormick is an enthusiastic retired widow with more energy and passion for serving the Lord in practical ways than many half her age. She is a mother of four, has ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Weekly, she gets two buses to Malvern PS where she volunteers because she wants all children to know the joy of reading and to benefit from a secure loving environment.

Life has dealt Una many blows. As a young girl she undertook responsibility for running the household after the untimely death of her mother who left a family of ten. She also lost a brother in tragic circumstances. Over the years Una has also overcome ill health issues Through it all Una put her trust in God and witnesses to how He answered her prayers in amazing ways.
Una worked in Clifton House as an auxiliary nurse and became an activity therapist, where her wide ranging skills from painting to knitting were utilised. She has dedicated her life to serving others and has volunteered with McMillan Cancer Support and has also organised crafts at the Hospice.

She is Peoples’ Churchwarden in St. Brigid’s Newtownabbey and participates in everything from crèche to choir. With God’s help she will continue to serve for many more years.
