Equipping for Life for a better future

Liz Tinsley: Volunteer Tutor in Springfield School

Liz is a native of the Shankill and still lives in the area. She left Glencairn Secondary School and her first job was as a stitcher. Later she took a post with the Belfast Trust and became a Senior Care Worker at residential homes where her empathetic and compassionate nature could flourish. She worked in Cairn’s House and Shankill House for the bulk of her career and retired in order to care for her mother in her final years.

Liz is a keen walker, gardener and music lover. She is a keen craftswoman and accomplished knitter. Recently she has learnt to crochet and has already completed an exquisite throw for her granddaughter’s bed.

Liz is a parishioner of St. Andrews, Glencairn and in keeping with their mission “to get on with living out our faith in our community” she is a member of the Select Vestry, helps with various church activities and finds time to assist Rev. Adrian in providing devotional services in the nearby residential homes.

When Brother David spoke at her church, Liz, a caring mother and grandmother, felt a draw towards EfL. She loves the sessions in Springfield PS. The stories the children tell and their improved reading ability bring her great joy and satisfaction.
