Equipping for Life for a better future

Betty Redfern: Volunteer Tutor in Malvern School

I’m the youngest of four children; born and bred in Lisburn. I met my husband Paul in London; returning home to Northern Ireland with two daughters. As a qualified hairdresser, I ran my own business.
While Paul prepared for full-time ministry in Dublin for three years, I attended Belfast Bible College for the same period. What a privilege to journey alongside the people of God in our ministry. I have so many memories leading the Girl Guides and helping with the Squirrels.
Now twenty-five years on, having lived in fourteen homes with gardens, we have settled in our retirement home. We have five grandsons to enjoy and pray for; watching them grow into fine young men over the years.
My commitment to volunteering continues. I work with Divine Healing Ministry; Riding for the Disabled; and Carnmoney Parish Church Girls Brigade. I’m also involved in the preparations for Blythswood Annual Shoe Boxes. At Brother David’s request, I volunteer with Equipping for Life in Malvern School. Children keep us young; but they can be a challenge at times. Yet through our continual friendship, encouragement and prayer, we know and believe that God will fulfil his purpose and plans for these children who come under our prayers for them.
